Dr. Rajendra Prasad Primary & Secondary Ashram School, Shenit
डॉ. राजेंद्रप्रसाद प्राथमिक व माध्यमिक आश्रमशाळा, शेणीत
Shenit is a remote and tribal village in Akole Taluka. Satyaniketan’s ‘Dr. Rajendra Prasad Ashram-school’ is one of an ideal Aided Ashram-school (Residential School) which is situated amidst the beautiful natural surroundings of Kalasubai mountain ranges. In the year 1965, ‘Dang Seva Mandal, Nashik’ had started Ashram-School at Shenit, in order to provide basic education to Tribal community. Karmaveer Dadasaheb Beedkar was the founder of ‘Dang Seva Mandal’. Later in 1967, due to the long distance and inconvenience in operation, ‘Dang Seva Mandal’ decided to close this Ashram school. Next year, in November 1968, Maharashtra Government Tribal Department handed over this Ashram-school to ‘Satyaniketan’.
Today, the school has about 410 students studying in the classes from 1st to 10th standards in both Primary and Secondary sections. All students studying in this school belong to Scheduled Tribe community. Today this Ashram-school has become the perfect option for the Primary & Secondary Education in the tribal region. The Ashram School strives to provide the right environment for physical development of the tribal students through Sports. Free nutritious meals, purified drinking water as well as proper medical facilities are provided along with education. Proper computer education is also being provided to the students with the help of the newly established Computer Lab. Good toilets blocks for girls and boys are installed. Satyaniketan’s Treasurer Hon. Vivekji Madan is doing tremendous efforts for the development of this Ashram-school. Maharashtra Government honoured this Ashram-school by awarding 2nd Prize of ‘Ideal Ashram-school Award’ in the year 2016-17.

“The small wisdom is like water in a glass: clear, transparent, pure. The great wisdom is like the water in the sea: dark, mysterious, impenetrable.”
– Ravindranath Tagore
We both are very fortunate as we are given an opportunity to serve the students of Tribal community in the tribal region of Akole. It is not easy to develop these students both socially as well as intellectually. We are succeeded in providing proper environment for the all-round development of students. In the remote and hilly area of Shenit, our residential Ashram school has shown an outstanding performance in a short span of time. Both our Primary and Secondary sections are working together with great strength and enthusiasm. We believe that an Ashram school has to be progressive in not only its infrastructure but also in its thinking. It has to be responsive to the needs of the changing society. It has to act as buffer to absorb the shocks suffered by the downtrodden and underprivileged society. It has to imbibe a sense of belonging and also a sense of responsibility towards fellow citizen. Obviously, we are traveling in the right way with the great support of our old institution i.e. ‘Satyaniketan’. We both believe that the best approach to preparing tribal students for their careers is to inspire them to discover, create, and innovate. Let’s work together in this mission…!
